Meet Empire State Greenhouses

Empire State Greenhouses is Coming to Cobleskill

Through a START-UP NY relationship with SUNY Cobleskill, Empire State Greenhouses plans to build and operate net-zero-energy controlled environment vegetable and mushroom grow facilities, as well as a biogas digester. This exciting green-energy initiative projects to create approximately 80 new jobs, as well as internship and research opportunities for SUNY Cobleskill students and members of the campus community.

The Institute for Rural Vitality at SUNY Cobleskill is working in close collaboration with ESG to move the project forward. Once completed, the 300,000 square-foot facility, which will host three separate greenhouses, will support the growth of out-of-season produce on a rotational basis. Many SUNY Cobleskill programs incorporate crop production, soil science, and environmental sustainability into their curricula, making the ESG project an invaluable, all-season applied learning resource.

SUNY Cobleskill welcomed ESG representatives to campus for a question and answer session on Friday, February 1. Additional opportunities to comment on the project and to inquire about its community impact will take place at later dates.
