Liberal approval of leave requests is encouraged whenever possible for the week of July 4.

As service to our students and families is of the utmost importance, functional areas that provide services to incoming/returning students and families should ensure coverage through in-person or telecommuting services.

There are functional areas where granting liberal leave may not be feasible, such as those caring for live plants/animals/humans, critical Facilities work, UPD, etc.

Veterans Day

Supervisors should only request classified employees work if their presence is necessary to provide critical services.

Thanksgiving Day
Fourth Thursday in November
All offices are closed to observe Thanksgiving, except for essential Facilities, Farm, and University Police staff.

Day After Thanksgiving
In order to offer employees the option of taking the day after Thanksgiving off, no offices will need to be open, except for essential services. The following procedure is in place so that no one will be denied the right to work, if they so choose.

Classified employees wishing to take the day off may charge the absence to accrued annual, personal, compensatory, or holiday leave. Those who do not wish to use their leave credits may work or take the day off without pay.
Management/Confidential employees may likewise report to work, charge the absence to leave accruals, or use approved compensatory time.

For professional employees, this day has been designated a holiday (in lieu of Lincoln's Birthday).  The day will still need to be charged on the November timesheet for professional staff if not worked.

Human Resources will need to know which employees are planning to work so that work assignments and supervision can be arranged. Classified employees who choose to work may not necessarily be assigned to their usual work sites.

Christmas Day
December 25
All offices are closed to observe Christmas Day, except for essential Facilities, Farm, and University Police staff.
