Degree Option
Associate in Applied Science (AAS)
Accounting majors at SUNY Cobleskill will find their experience both challenging and
rewarding. In addition to specialized coursework, students will take courses in computer
science and business law, as well as selected coursework to meet their individual
needs. The A.A.S. program focuses on preparing students for entry level accounting
jobs. It also transfers into bachelor’s degree programs in accounting or into SUNY
Cobleskill’s B.B.A. in Financial Planning. Students who take this path are qualified
to transfer in Master’s of Accountancy
programs and take both the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Exam and the Certified
Financial Planners (CFP®) Exam.
In addition to accounting classes, students will take courses in computer science, business law and other electives to meet their individual needs. Courses include:
Hot fields in Accounting include forensic, environmental, and entertainment accounting. Graduates find work in places such as public accounting firms, businesses, or nonprofit agencies like the Red Cross, the FBI or CIA. The high demand for accountants translates to increased job opportunities, stable careers, and above average salaries.

Graduates also have the option to continue their studies. Students have been accepted into graduate schools at SUNY New Paltz, SUNY IT, Siena, Saint Rose, SUNY Oswego, SUNY Albany, and more. Many have gone on to earn their Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License and some are even working for the Big Four accounting firms.
SUNY Cobleskill Accounting faculty have real-life accounting experience along with
a passion for teaching. Faculty have worked for the Big Four public accounting firms,
the Internal Revenue Service, local governments, publishing companies, non-profit
agencies, and have experience running their own accounting practices. Our faculty
members are also well known for their concern and dedication to the success of their
